“When the dark spirit wormed its decay into our god, the husk of the blessed Thaen grew malign. The Eternal Ziggurat was torn asunder.”
Jinas, The Eternal Empress

The Corruptor is the world boss of Yaesha, located in The Great Bole.

Mechanics[edit | edit source]

The arena consists of three long, detached pathways with pillars and one staircase toward each neighbouring platform, leading up to the Corruptor floating at the end. Pathways may be crossed by jumping from a staircase, or by using the Invader skill Wormhole. The Corruptor is swarmed by Root Rays and fights alongside the corrupted Guardian of the Pan, Many Faces.

Corruptor[edit | edit source]

Corruptor begins the fight at approximately 60% health, hovering between pathways lingering at the end. It is a large damage soak that only exposes its weakspot under conditions listed below. The player must make the choice between sustaining damage on the Corruptor, or damaging Many Faces to set up a large burst of damage on Corruptor during its resurrection phase.

Corruptor will stand idle at the edge of whichever pathway the player is located. Once at 50% health, it will periodically release a massive beam attack on the pathway the player is located on, damaging the entire pathway and destroying every pillar on it. This can only be avoided by crossing onto another pathway when Corruptor emits a large red glow, indicating that the beam is about to fire. Should the Traveler be caught in it the beam will repeatedly stun them; making the ability lethal without specialized builds, particularly on higher difficulties. As the beam only has a charge time of roughly 4s, it is vital to stay within reach of a staircase.
The Corruptor will remain at the platform where it last fired its beam, only changing location once it can fire again. This can buy the Traveler additional time to get close to a jump point.

Many Faces[edit | edit source]

“Few Pan have had the honor of witnessing Many Faces engage in battle. It is a glorious thing to watch, enemy after enemy falling before it like wine glasses teetering on a dilapidated dining table.”

Many Faces has a very high health pool and is armored along its entire body. The only vulnerability is the weakspot in its head, generally only exposed when attacking. Many Faces will stomp and swing its four swords at the Traveler when nearby. Once it has begun its spin attack, Many Faces will slowly follow the Traveler until reaching an edge or hitting an object or entity. After being resurrected at least once or if left behind on another platform, it can do a long leap to close vast distances, dealing SHOCK damage on impact as well as staggering the Traveler.

A prominent ability of Many Faces are its detachable arms. Initially it will only send out the upper pair, which will engage in melee attacks; either rising upwards or turning in place before doing a spinning slash at the Traveler. Once the Corruptor reaches 30% remaining health, Many Faces will also send out its lower pair of arms. Identified by their blue glow, they will remain at range and hurl projectiles that inflict OVERLOAD.

After Many Faces has been killed and resurrected at least once, all arms will gain another attack. Stabbing into the ground, an arm will release up to three bursts of SHOCK damage, staggering the Traveler if caught in the radius.

Damaging the arms also harms Many Faces. Roughly 10s after at least one arm has been killed, Many Faces may recall both it as well as all other arms. It will spend some additional health to restore and reattach them over the course of an extended animation, during which its weakspot will stay exposed.

Guardian Resurrection[edit | edit source]

When Many Faces is killed, Corruptor will slowly fly across the pathway towards it, resurrecting it by sacrificing roughly 40% of its current health. During this time it exposes the weakspot on its underside, which may be greatly exploited to damage huge bursts of damage to the boss. The slow status effect will extend this period. During this time, Root Rays will more aggressively attack the Traveler.

Pillars[edit | edit source]

There are several pillars throughout the arena. These pillars may be used to block Many Faces' swings, or intentionally destroyed for their ammunition drops. Each pillar will always drop the same type of ammunition on repeated attempts, making some potentially more valuable to visit than others. When the Corruptor uses its beam attack, every pillar along that pathway is destroyed.

Root Rays[edit | edit source]

The Root Rays swarming around the Corruptor will remain passive until a resurrection phase. Their path will however take them across the arena sometimes, making them an occasional source of ammunition.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • In concept art, the Corruptor was originally depicted much smaller, fitting around the head of Many Faces. A remnant of this is one of the file names for it, "Root_ManyFaces_Parasite".
  • Multiple Corruptors can be seen passing in the distance at multiple spots on Root Earth; they are however entirely passive.
  • While passive, the Root Rays swarming it appear in the dull red of the base variant, but once sent to attack, they glow orange like a Root Ray Mother.
  • The Corruptor's beam will reach the statues outside the fog gate, which may also drop ammo. This has no use in the battle however.
