The Pan are a race of caprine humanoids that reside in the jungles of Yaesha.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

The pan are about a head taller than most human characters, and all have horns that increase that height even further. Most horns appear to be similar to that of an ibex or gazelle, but this is not universal. Some Pan even go so far as having antlers, while others seem to twist randomly.

Most Pan wear masks at all time, believing their true face to be duplicitous. These masks range wildly, with some masks like that of Empress Jinas being made of solid gold and having numerous ornaments, and other masks being as simple as painted wood.

Culture[edit | edit source]

The Pan are organized by various sects and castes. There is a massive class divide between the immortal noble caste and the day-to-day slaves of the Vast caste, which has led to a rebellion during the Wanderer's time on Yaesha. It's unclear if this rebellion is still happening during the time the Traveler visited Yaesha 20 years later.

Castes[edit | edit source]

  • Vast
    • Slaves to the other castes.
  • Gul
    • Larger servants, these are the bulkier Pan who frequently act as foot soldiers.
  • Vaunnt
    • Priests of the Pan
  • Nobles
    • Ruling caste
    • Immortals, composed of the original Red Widows who followed Jinas when she discovered the Thaen Tree.

Sects[edit | edit source]

  • Laemir
    • Take care of burial and internment. During Remnant: From the Ashes, they are seeking a way to use the crystals found on Yaesha to resurrect the dead. In Remnant 2 they have turned away from the crystals and towards the Root and the Ravager as a possible source of immortality.
  • Ahanae
    • Wizards and mystics, they use crystals to cast lightning magic.

History[edit | edit source]

Religion[edit | edit source]

The Pan are fervent believers in a force called "The Balance", which represents the cyclical inevitability of death and rebirth. Physically this religion is embodied in the never-ending rivalry of the Ravager and the Red Doe. During the time of Remnant 2, this rivalry has been disrupted due to the events that took place in Remnant: From the Ashes. The Ravager, who was left for dead at the end of the first Remnant installment, is given new life by the Root and finally manages to catch and subdue the Red Doe, but cannot kill her himself.
