“Those who have met the imposter believe them to be veracious. Those who know better believe them false. Those who know best, however, see the imposter for who they truly are—a perfect and indiscernable blend of the two.”

The Imposter King was once the One True King's closest confidant. Now he has usurped his throne, putting the Guardian into a deep slumber.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

Choosing to fight one of the two over the other is permanent for a given run. It is not possible to change in between attempts.

Beatific Gallery

Faelin begins the battle with a certain amount of damage reduction.

At range, he may summon a Javelin Portal, indicated by the sword fragments taking on a triangle formation.

In melee range, he will use one of three attacks:

  • Forming the sword behind his back, he will do a quick swing back and forth.
  • If the sword is instead formed next to his arm and the first strike rises high, the second strike will be delayed for a moment.
  • If shaping the blade above his head, he will do a delayed overhead strike.

If the Traveler is too far away, Faelin may also pull them closer, telegraphed by a golden circle around his target. If the pull is not dodged, Faelin will immediately chain into one of his melee attacks.

He may also dodge, teleporting similar to a Fae Knight.

Fight Progression[edit | edit source]

At roughly 87% remaining health, Faelin may summon a portal wall, indicated by the sword fragments taking on a circle formation.
Numerous Javelin Portals will appear, covereing the width of the arena and restricting movement. The will fire their projectiles only a short distance however.

The circle shape is also used to indicate the summoning of a pair of Javelin Portals one after the other, behaving like the single summon.

Finally, he gains access to a feint ability, indicated by a golden circle flashing around the hilt behind his back. This allows him to immediately switch from one melee attack into a different one, either to chain attacks or to throw off dodge timings.

At 65% health, Faelin will become invulnerable and transition into his second phase. Rushing towards the center of the arena, he will rise into the air, lifting the massive swords of the surrounding statues. After a short delay, all swords will slam down, with only a small area near the entrance remaining unaffected.

Afterwards, random sets of swords will ascend, before slamming down with Faelin's overhead strikes.

Last Phase[edit | edit source]

Once brought down to only 25% remaining health, Faelin initiates his last phase. He will lose his damage resistance, but in turn remain invulnerable for extended periods while he teleports.

During this time, the giant swords randomly rise and fall. Separately, a massive group of Javelin Portals may appear above the Traveler, raining down projectiles on anything that does not get out from under them.

Periodically, the attacks will stop and Faelin reappears to perform a single attack. From afar he will dash towards a target, being able to cover the lenght of the arena. Alternatively he may appear close, leaping high into the air and diving down to release a burst of power.
Lastly, Faelin may appear at medium distance, leaping into the air before smashing his sword down.

Afterwards, he will remain still for a short moment, before entering his teleport again. This cycle repeats until he dies.

Fight Progression[edit | edit source]

At roughly 87% remaining health, Faerin may summon a portal wall, indicated by the sword fragments taking on a triangle formation.
Four groups of Javelin Portals appear on the centerline of the arena, either along its length or its width. They will fire their projectiles perpendicular to this line, with no restriction on range.

The circle shape is used to indicate the summoning of a pair of Javelin Portals one after the other, behaving like the single summon.

Finally, he gains access to a third type of Portal summon, creating a pair that follows above his shoulders—also indicated by a triangle shape. This wide variety of ranged options allows him to stay back for extended periods.

At 65% health, Faerin will become invulnerable and transition into his second phase. Rushing towards the center of the arena, he will rise into the air, lifting the massive swords of the surrounding statues. After a short delay, all swords will slam down, with only a small area near the entrance remaining unaffected.

Afterwards, random sets of swords will ascend, slamming down after some time passes. An increasingly intense glow beneath them telegraphs their impact.

Lastly, Faerin may appear at range, dashing sideways while hurling his blade at the Traveler.

Afterwards, he will remain still for a short moment, before entering his teleport again. This cycle repeats until he dies.

Javelin Portals[edit | edit source]

Javelin Portals are used in several attacks of the Imposter. They will sacrifice one third of their maximum life to fire a projectile at the Traveler. As such, their lifetime can be shortened, even without destroying them. Some specifically aim for the Traveler, while others fire in a set direction.
